All-mountain freedom with race-bred power – meet your quiver killer.
If you’re chasing powder in the morning and smashing groomers after lunch, the Van Deer FREERIDE 98 is your dream ride. It’s the ski Marcel Hirscher built to do it all – with the heart of a charger and the soul of a freerider. The 98 mm waist hits that sweet spot for versatility, letting you float in fresh snow, rip firm lines, and slash trees with equal confidence. Under the hood, it’s got a poplar wood core, carbon layers and double titanal for damp, race-inspired power that doesn’t flinch at speed. A surfy rocker up front adds playfulness, while ABS sidewalls and race edges grip when it counts. It’s smooth, fast and totally dialled – ready for big back bowls, resort blasts, or wherever the mountain leads you.

Jumped on these off a heavy 80mm wide all-mountain ski on a day at TC with 10cm of windblown snow to enjoy and I was impressed.

Light yet surprisingly damp, they were responsive and rewarding both where the snow had accumulated and where it had been blown off to reveal the harder stuff underneath.

This is a ski that lives up to the maker's description. "Race-bred power": tick. "Sweet spot for versatility": tick. Indeed, I can't argue with any of the bullet points in the description.

I'm a skier who likes a traditional feel (if you used to ski on skis with a length that started with a 2, you know what I mean). But I don't want to put in the work I did in my 20s to make a satisfying turn and ski just about anywhere. And this 98 really delivered with the effort factor dramatically reduced and the enjoyment factor greatly increased. A great TC ski and the perfect ski to travel with, with its lightness, user-friendliness, versatility and reduced fatigue factor.

This is an impressive free-ride/all mountain ski that would handle everything from spring morning ice to all the but the deepest dump.

If your budget allows, and you're looking for superior quality ski that is light without compromising a full range of performance, you should consider this ski.
