I decided to switch to Step-Ons to keep up with my little kids who are just learning to ski.
I was very skeptical because it's quite different without the straps and I would also have to get new boots. But once these went on special, I pulled the trigger and they are definitely worth it. At least on beginner slopes where it's flat. I'm yet to try them on steeper slopes.
After a few runs I couldn't even tell they didn't have straps.
These come with a leash, just in case, so don't worry about accidentally unlocking on a lift or something.
Finally one down side is I sometimes have trouble getting that double click on the heel while stepping in to fully engage. It still works ok with one click but feels a bit "off". I think I just need to get used to it and get the stepping in technique right.
